What Are the Things You Should Not Do When Waxing?

Some people have more tolerance to pain than the rest of us. Some will not allow even a needle to get near their skin.

They say that waxing can be very inconvenient and painful. It is like somebody is pulling your hair and literally plucking each one of it.

Yet the inconvenience of having a lot of unwanted hair is so strong that we are all willing to suffer a little just to get rid of it.

Well while we all agree that waxing is already painful to begin with, we don’t want to add up to all that pain by being ignorant of the well known dos and don’ts.

If a friend has not told you any of these yet based on her or someone else’s experience, maybe it is about time we all arm ourselves with knowledge.

There are simple rules to follow to have a stress-free waxing experience. Be sure to take note of these things you shouldn’t do when you start making waxing a regular part of your skin care regime.

Do Not Shave

It is not enough that you just don’t shave between wax appointments. If you are already a huge fan of waxing, we no longer see any reason for you to shave, not even occasionally. Shaving can initiate the return of ingrown hairs which regular waxing at Brazilian Wax or Ministry of Waxing would have already removed and it can be extremely itchy.

Shaving also makes you susceptible to folliculitis.

Folliculitis is a bacterial skin infection that comes from damaged hair follicles. There has been a study that noted that folliculitis is more probable when a waxed area.has been shaver and it  occurs most often on the arms.

Do Not Scratch Anything?

Speaking of the dreaded itch, don’t even think about scratching the waxed area! It can aggravate skin irritation and cause infection

Fever, redness, swelling, itching, warmth, or pain are all symptoms of a possible infection.

If you are experiencing any of these after being waxed, you must visit a doctor right away.

An infection can be treated with anti-bacterial cream, ointment or oral antibiotics.

Do Not Touch It

Constantly touching the newly waxed area can initiate transfer and spreading of bacteria and clog your pores

Do Not Apply Anything

Never use lotions and creams on the waxed area. It may give a bad chemical reaction to the wax. Never use moisturizers and make up also because aside from a possible bad effect when combined with wax, it can also interfere with your wax specialist trying to shape your brow perfectly.

Do Not Use Saunas and Tanning Beds

It is not advisable to initiate sweating on days following the wax because it can attract dirt which can clog the pores. Avoid going in hot showers, saunas, steam rooms and tanning beds after waxing.

Don’t Get a Scrub

Never try to exfoliate 24 to 48 hours before a waxing session to avoid irritation. Exfoliating regularly in between wax appointments is recommended.

Don’t Go Tanning or Sunbathing

Don’t tan 24 hours to 48 hours before a wax session. Pre-wax tanning can make your skin sensitive and cause a lot of discomfort during your wax.

Tanning after a wax can make skin more susceptible to sunburn.

Waxing already exfoliates and removes the top layer of dead surface-skin cells. It is going to feel as if you are sunburned already to begin with and getting sunburned for real will make the pain worse. This is why one must skip the wax until the skin is fully healed. This applies to all types of waxing from legs to eyebrows.

Don’t Go to Dirty Wax Salons

If a salon or esthetician is not following basic hygiene standards as serious as not changing the wax or cleaning equipment between customers, bacteria can easily transfer from one client to the next.

You don’t want to risk getting an infection from these places so make sure you stay away from these places.

Don’t Listen to Anyone Telling You Waxing May Not Be For You

We all heard about the worse waxing or shaving horror stories and we sure don’t want any of that to happen so it is understandable if we may have apprehensions about trying these things for the first time.

The good news is most of these little inconveniences can be avoided if we arm ourselves with knowledge about what to avoid and what not to do to have a safe and smooth waxing experience.

If the only reason you are not getting a wax is because someone else says so, remember that you own your body and you should be the one following your own personal preferences. No one should be telling you what to do. Love yourself enough to get rid of any unwanted hair you want removed and don’t delay that overdue wax appointment.
