So you’ve just returned home after your Brazilian wax appointment at the spa or perhaps at the European Wax Center. You’re very happy with the results. Sure it was painful. But definitely worth it, right?
The thing is, getting a wax is only half the battle. You also need to make sure the results last longer because, let’s face it, getting a Brazilian every few weeks can be expensive, inconvenient and not to mention, painful.
It’s possible to make your Brazilian wax results last longer, and you just need to follow some tried and tested tips to make I happen.
Before Waxing
With any waxing, preparation is key. If you plan on going to a spa or salon, you need to find someone who is licensed to perform waxing treatments and at the same time has extensive experience in this kind of task. It’s also important to choose one you’re comfortable with.
If you’re waxing at home, that’s fine too. You just need to make sure you have all the things needed like a waxing kit. But one thing you need to understand is that if you want long-lasting results, going to a pro is a must.
You should also make sure your hair is ready for a wax. It should be at least ¼ of an inch in length so that the wax can get a good grip of the hair. Another consideration is that you should not wax too close to your period. That’s because your skin is extra sensitive around these times.
Finally, take a pain killer like Tylenol or Advil at least 30 minutes before your appointment especially if you have a low tolerance for pain or if it’s your first time to get a Brazilian.
During Your Waxing Session
A Brazilian wax removes all the hair between your legs. Sometimes a person might prefer to leave a line of hair or triangle in front. Let your esthetician how exactly much hair you want to remove or keep.
Expect a little pain even if you’ve taken a pain killer. Everyone has a different level of pain tolerance but some discomfort is to be expected especially for Brazilian waxing.
After Waxing
Now that your waxing is done, you’ll be given some after care advice including:
- Don’t touch the area that was recently waxed.
- Take a shower instead of a bath. Keep the water warm and not hot so as not to dehydrate the skin.
- Skip sex for at least 12 hours, preferably 24 hours because your skin will be very sensitive.
- After a few days, you can exfoliate to prevent ingrown hair.
- Don’t wear any tight fitting clothes for 24 hours.
- Avoid sweating down there for 24 hours as well.
Getting a bikini or Brazilian wax puts you at risk of infection if you don’t take proper precaution. Stay clean, avoid activities that may cause you to sweat and follow the tips above so you can maintain smooth, hair-free skin for much longer.
