Most spas offer various kinds of body massages including Swedish, deep tissue, aromatherapy, Shiatsu and reflexology massages. But have you ever wondered what kind of treatments you can get in a spa aside from a body massage? Check out this list so you can decide what other services you can add next time you treat yourself to a day at the spa.
1. Full Body Mud Mask
If you’ve been watching suits, then you’re most likely familiar with mudding. A full body mud mask is something similar except that warm mud is actually applied to the body and then the body is wrapped in foil or plastic for about half an hour.
2. Herbal Body Wrap
Heated muslin or linen sheets are soaked in a machine that contains herbal oils or powders. Then your body will be fully covered with either rubber sheets or towel, and then wrapped again with the soaked linen or heated sheets for 20 minutes or so.
3. Paraffin Body Wrap
Paraffin wraps are placed all over your body to generate heat and make you perspire. Some spas combine seaweed or mud with the paraffin.
4. Full Body Facial
The name itself may sound weird – a full body facial. But it’s sort of like a facial for the whole body and involves cleansing, exfoliation, steam, mask, massage and then applying a finishing treatment.
5. Body Tanning
The body will first undergo exfoliation and then the esthetician will apply tanning emulsion all over.
6. Water Therapy
Water therapy is a general term used to refer to various techniques that use water as a form of treatment or healing.
7. Manicure / Pedicure
Most spas offer manicures and pedicures, along with foot scrub and others.
8. Exfoliation
This treatment involves scrubbing, rubbing or polishing the skin to remove dirt and dead skin and allow the skin create new cells and become smoother and more moisturized.
9. Asian Massages
There are other kinds of body massages that are now being offered in spas like the Hand and Stone Massage aside from the ones previously mentioned. These include:
- Ayurvedic Massage – which aims to stimulate the lymphatic system.
- Burmese Massage – has ancient origins from Thai, Indian and Chinese medicine for body healing.
- Thai Massage – is based on a combination of Chinese and Indian traditions of medicine.
- Shiatsu Japanese Massage – uses feet to massage the body for pressure and compression.
10. Turkish Bath Massage
The massage involves joint cracking along with vigorous muscle kneading.
11. Acupressure
The technique is similar to acupuncture and based on the concept of life energy. Physical pressure is exerted onto acupuncture points in order to clear any blockages.
